Research Fellow, World Wildlife Fund/IUCN Dhaka University Elephant Project in Bangladesh

  • Surveyed elephant population of Cox's Bazaar forest in Bangladesh
  • Identification food plants and food preference evaluation
  • Collect information on crop damage and causes of human-elephant conflicts

  • Developed three replicable model of " People Participatory Ecosystem Conservation " at  fresh water wetlands, evergreen forest and in deciduous forest
  • Developed tools and techniques in use of wild cultivers in rural  eco-agriculture
  • Guided crop diversification activities in Kapasia
  • Established programme of using derelict ponds in Kapasia for fish production
  • Established a national non-governmental conservation organization "Nature Conservation Movement" (NACOM) for sustaining those models.

Worked as the project coordinator of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) sponsored "Wetland, Water and Flood Management Project". In Bangladesh.

  • Prepared inventory of fresh water wetlands

  • Advocate and facilitate  Bangladesh's accession to Ramsar Convention on Wetlands
  • Prepared wetland protected area  management plan for one of the wetlands in Bangladesh having biodiversity  of global significance
  • Prepare guidelines in swamp forest restoration programme
  • Facilitated income generation in using mollusk shells for duckfeeds
  • Guided indigenous psciculture
  • Experimented on  floating vegetable gardening
  • Experimented in  use of pit soil in producing natural fertilizes with a mix of composed water hyacinth

Worked as Farm manger in AL-BUSTAN FARM/ZOOLOGICAL Garden in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates for captive breeding of rare birds  
 

  • Successfully breeds the rare Indian Peacock and Green Jungle Fowl
  • Did experiment in hybridization of  Red-Jungle Fowl with the domestic fowl

Carried out the pioneering waterfowl surveys and promoted the mid-winter Asian Waterfowl Count in the coastal areas of Bangladesh since 1987 and made a detailed survey of the key wader staging areas along the coasts of Bangladesh, sponsored by the Wetlands International (formerly Asian Wetland Bureau).  The annual waterfowl survey has now become a regular event among the birdwatchers of Bangladesh.

  • Worked as Research Fellow, IUCN/CMC/WTMU Monitor Lizard survey in Bangladesh to determine the status of various varanid lizards in 1988.  The survey results were used by CITES in categorising the varanid species present in Bangladesh for the CITES Schedules.
