Employment History

    Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA), Volunteer Intern (March 2009-May 2009) Cairns, Australia

     Updated and restructured the Wet Tropics Handbook for Tour Operators and Guides.  Collected information on unique flora and fauna found in the Wet Tropics as well as ‘how to be a good guide’ in the Wet Tropics.  Collaborated with colleagues at WTMA to collect information for the handbook.  Wrote exert for WTMA magazine promoting a site in the Wet Tropics.

    Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum, Animal Care Intern (May 2007-August 2007)

    Sioux Falls, SD

    Assisted keepers in the caring for and handling for a variety of wild animals.  A majority of the time was spent with birds (including penguins), primates, giraffes, cheetahs, bongos, zebras and warthogs.  I assisted in cleaning, preparing and delivering food, different types of enrichment, exhibit maintenance, animal training, and public interaction.

    Miami University, Laboratory Assistant (May 2005-May 2007) Oxford, OH

    Researched the abundance and reproductive patterns of crustaceans and larval fish in multiple lakes around Ohio.  Collected zooplankton and ichthyoplankton samples.  Helped graduate students by maintaining live cultures, identified, enumerated and measured the contents of samples, entered and analyzed research data. 

    Miami University, Laboratory Assistant (May 2005-May 2006) Oxford, OH

    Researched water quality in Ohio.  Collected lab samples and helped graduate students in their mesocosm experiments.  Ran chlorophyll-a samples, conducted nutrient limitation analysis and filtered water collected for various experiments. 
     

Additional Experience

    Co-Chaired the successful drive to preserve Bishop Woods (secondary woods in the middle of campus) on the Miami University campus working with students, professors and alumni. 
     

Skills

Excellent communication skills developed from, traveling, working in animal care facilities, laboratory environments and with the general public. Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and GIS.  Experienced traveler (dual Mexican/American citizenship, lived over 7 years in three foreign countries and can communicate in German).  Certified advanced open water SCUBA diver (PADI).
